Change only the fields you intend
ComicInfo.xml can hold a title, series, issue number, creators, reading direction and page-specific information. Different readers also add fields or namespaced extensions. The editor replaces the nonblank overrides you enter for Title, Series, Number, Writer, Summary and LanguageISO, while retaining other XML elements and attributes semantically.
Blank form overrides mean keep the existing value. They do not erase a field. You can inspect the complete resulting XML in the preview panel or download it separately. XML serialization can alter whitespace or formatting, so preservation means the retained data and structure, not byte-for-byte identity of the metadata document.
Keep page references aligned
ComicInfo Page Image values refer to zero-based source image indices. After selection or reordering, those indices must change to match the newly numbered images. If source pages are exported in the order 3,1, source image index 2 becomes output index 0 and source index 0 becomes output index 1. Their bookmarks and other page attributes travel with them.
Splitting a spread creates two output records from the original page record. Both retain its other metadata, but DoublePage becomes False and image dimensions and byte sizes are updated. PageCount also changes. Unknown root fields and namespaced content remain available in the rebuilt CBZ.
Handle ambiguity before conversion
Multiple ComicInfo files, duplicate page indices, references outside the archive and malformed XML are refused. DTDs and entity declarations are not accepted, and the editor never retrieves remote XML resources. Correct an ambiguous metadata file in a working copy before retrying.
The PDF reading-direction preference carries only a small part of the archive’s metadata; the rebuilt CBZ is the appropriate output when you need ComicInfo. Reader support varies. Reopen that CBZ in your library application and verify the title, direction and a bookmarked page before replacing any existing library copy.
